Now tell me that cover doesn’t look like trouble. 😈 Dare Me to Stay is dark, emotional, and full of messy choices about love, loyalty, and revenge—and this design captures all of it. I can’t wait for you to dive in and see just how far these characters will go for the ones they love… and the ones they shouldn’t.

Unlike with No Promises No Lies, I knew what I wanted for book 2’s covers almost right away. I found the stock image of the snake while surfing stock websites for ideas and just knew I needed to make it my ENTIRE personality. I thought it was a good choice for Dare Me to Stay, with the loyalty and betrayal themes throughout this book.

The Celtic trinity knot on the cover isn’t just a beautiful design—it holds deep meaning for the story itself, like the Claddagh ring on the cover of No Promises, No Lies. Traditionally, the knot represents eternity and interconnectedness, with no beginning and no end. For Dare Me to Stay, it symbolizes the bond between the three most important people in the story: Koen, Briar and their daughter. 😉😙

Even through betrayal, danger, and heartache, this trio is forever intertwined. The knot’s endless loops reflect the loyalty, love, and complicated connections that define their lives—and the story’s central theme of family, in all its messy, dark, and beautiful forms.

A lot of what happened in designing this cover happened on accident. Like the design on the word “Stay” is actually an image of ballet tulle. But after I clipped it to the text, it looked a bit like snakeskin, and I was like OH! YES!

The same thing happened when I was playing around in Photoshop trying to get the snake to cooperate when I accidentally gave the image that pink glow.

Complete accident.

I don’t know that I could replicate it if I tried, but that pretty much sums up my art style for you: chaos.

Overall, I am thrilled with how it came out. I can’t wait to get the proof copies back so I can see them in person. And of course, I’ve already got a few ideas on what to do for Devils & Darlings III! 😉

In the Trenches Update

Life has been crazy lately, between editing and writing the last few scenes of Dare Me to Stay, my brain is living somewhere between caffeine and chaos. I’ve reached the part in the editing process where the laptop just goes everywhere with me. The story is finally coming together, and I’m both exhausted and so in love with how it’s coming along.

The Dare Me to Stay draft is up to 110K words which is just a little longer than No Promises, No Lies, but it looks like I might still have ten more chapters still to write… 😬 However, I am in the thick of editing right now and so we’ll see where we end up. But in all honestly, it’s time to go full throttle and get this book done as we’re really getting down to the wire here. There may be more than a few red-bull fueled nights ahead.

Marketing has been keeping me busy too. I swear, some days I spend more time marketing than I do writing. Between creating graphics, reels, emails, and trying to remember what sleep feels like, I’ve basically become one with my laptop.

And now that hockey season’s started, things have only gotten busier. We’ve got a hockey player in the family, which means I’m spending my weekends and nights at cold ice rinks, practically living out of the car, and running on coffee and concession-stand snacks. And of course, spending more time in the ER… 🥴

But it’s also October, which means Halloween season is officially here! My favorite time of year—cozy nights, Halloween movies, and all the pumpkin-flavored everything. (I’m a sucker for pumpkin-spiced lattes.) 🎃☕

So yeah… editing chaos, caffeine, cold rinks, and cozy nights—that’s my October in a nutshell. I hope you guys are as excited as I am for Dare Me to Stay! As soon as the book is done, I’ll start pulling quotes and sharing some fun character bios in upcoming newsletters to really drag out that slow burn wait til January. 🖤
